What Is Solar ATAP?

The Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme (ATAP) is Malaysia’s revolutionary replacement for NEM 3.0, designed to give TNB customers more flexibility, transparency, and long-term value when adopting solar energy.

Unlike previous schemes, Solar ATAP removes capacity limits, offers lifetime contracts, and allows full system sizing, empowering homeowners and businesses to generate, consume, and monetise solar energy more freely.

Understanding How Solar ATAP Works

1. Self-Consumption First
Use your solar energy directly to reduce electricity bills instantly

2. Export Excess at SMP Rate
Unused energy is exported to the TNB grid and credited at the System Marginal Price

3. Import Only When Needed
Draw power from the grid during low solar production periods

4. Battery Integration (Optional)
Store excess energy for night use instead of exporting at lower SMP rates

What Is SMP (System Marginal Price)?

The System Marginal Price (SMP) is Malaysia’s wholesale electricity clearing price, updated every 30 minutes based on real-time demand and supply. When you export excess solar energy, you receive credits at this transparent, market-reflective rate, ensuring fair compensation for the energy you contribute to the grid.

Tip: Pair your solar system with battery storage to save surplus energy for nighttime use instead of selling it back at lower SMP rates, helping you maximise long-term savings.

Max System Size: Up to 100% of fuse rating
Property Types: Terrace, Semi-D, Bungalow, Condo

Commercial

Connection: LV / MV
Max System Size: Up to 100% of CT ratio or MD
Business Types: Retail, Office, F&B, Hotel

Industrial

For factories and large facilities

Connection: MV / HV
Max System Size: Up to 100% of max demand
Facility Types: Factory, Warehouse, Logistics, Plant
